Meet Dr. Mazarakis

Welcome to my personal website! I am a Consultant neurosurgeon and complex spinal surgeon with 15 years of experience working in neurosurgical centers across the UK and Ireland. My career has included serving as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton (UK) and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
My academic background includes an MBBS from the University of London with Distinction, a BSc in Psychology with Distinction, an MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh with Distinction, and a DPhil from Oxford University, where I focused on degenerative disease and neuroplasticity. I completed my neurosurgical training through the highly competitive East Midlands Rotation in the UK, gaining further experience in Nottingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, and Dublin. I am a Fellow of both the European Board of Neurosurgical Societies (FEBNS) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd SN). My sub-speciality fellowship training includes complex spine surgery and cranial neuro-oncology. I remain actively involved in research, teaching, and clinical governance, with numerous publications and international presentations. I am a member of several professional societies and am dedicated to evidence-based, patient-centered care. My subspeciality interests include minimally invasive, endoscopic and complex spinal procedures, as well as management of brain tumours. In July 2024 I was elected Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After 27 years in the UK I returned to Greece to enthusiastically take up the University post in Thessaloniki.
